How does a dog become certified as an official service dog?
Training any dog or puppy in areas of mobility support requires obedience training and more. These certified canines are unwavering in their ability to control themselves, especially when there are crowded areas and other dogs around. As a certified service dog with [name,] your dog will recognize when he or she is “working” and will be able to remain calm and responsive in any setting.
Our service dog training certification requirements include the following:
- Basic obedience dog training
- Public access tests
- Specific task work training
How does a dog train to be a certified psychiatric or mobility service dog?
Dogs in our psychiatric or mobility programs will train specifically to serve those with mental, physical, and medical support needs. Handlers with mobility or mental health support needs will also be trained in our program.
At this time, we don’t offer medical alert service dog training.
Our Kansas City service dog training program includes:
- Psychiatric Service Dog Training
This type of service dog training is for anyone suffering from anxiety, depression, or PTSD. These handlers need additional support with everyday challenges and in new situations.
- Mobility Support Service Dog Training
This type of service dog training is for anyone with concerns about getting around independently. These handlers often require more physical support, as when reaching for dropped items or opening doors.
For mobility assistance, the training dog is required to be 50% of the handler’s weight as well as 40% of the handler’s height.
Your trained service dog can help with so much
